About Black Russian Terrier

Background
The Black Russian Terrier is a relatively new breed. In the 1940s the Russian army controlled kennel, "Red Star" began to breed a dog, for their own needs. The first standard was not published until 1958 but it was not until 1981 that the Russian Ministry of Agriculture declared the Balck Russain Terrier a breed.

Average Lifespan
Average lifespan of approximately 10-12 years.

Breed Personality/Characteristics/Temperament
The Black Russian Terrier displays natural guarding instinct, protective instincts that usually start to show around 18-24 months. They are alert, lively and even-tempered dogs that are easliy trained. Happy within their own family unit they are wary of strangers.

Compatibility with other pets
Black Russian Terriers are brave and observant and they have a strong protective instinct. This breeds intense contact with humans and animals. They have a strong and balanced temperament and avoid fighting with other dogs. The Black Russian Terrier only barks when they feel it necessary.

Care Requirements
The Black Russian Terrier has a coat that does require a fair amount of regular grooming and upkeep. In addition to the necessary weekly combing and brushing the coat needs to be scissored every eight to ten weeks depending on the hair growth. It is a coat that does shed.

The Black Russian Terrier does require regualr exercise.

Ideal Owner/s
The Black Russian Terrier is not the dog for the novice owner. It is a breed that does require training from an early age as its natural protective instincts will need to be properly channelled.
