Ground Under Repair
The front lawn area at KCC Park remains off-limits for ongoing maintenance until spring growth can complete repairs to this area. We apologise for the inconvenience. This repair work is critical for a successful summer of competition.

Trailers and Vehicles Banned on Lawns
No trailers or vehicles are permitted on lawn areas throughout KCC Park. This is to protect the lawn itself, and also the complex system of below-surface irrigation that has been installed.

Titles
Neuter Champion
Please note that dogs must be moved from the Main to the Neuter Register to earn points toward this title - more information
Schutzhund
The ANKC has issued a directive that Schutzhund titles obtained in other countries by dogs imported into Australia will not be added to the ANKC database at the time of reregistration. Schutzhund titles such as SCH & IPO previously added to the ANKC database will be removed. SCH, IPO & other similar titles are a form of attack training and the ANKC does not recognise these titles or discipline.

American Staffordshire Terrier Identification Cards
To assisst owners of American Staffordshire Terriers concerned by recent legal proceedings involving this breed and the banned breed American Pit Bull Terrier, DOGS Victoria is now offering an identification card to certify your dog's pedigree and legal status. Please download the application form to request a card for your dog. Cost is $5 per dog.

Vendor Fees
Clubs are reminded that all on-site commercial activities at KCC Park and Bulla require that a fee be paid to DOGS Victoria by each vendor/business. The office has received complaints from vendors who have booked a site and paid the fee to attend a show, then find competitors in place who have not paid a fee. Vendor fees must be paid in order to provide snacks, coffee, dog products or any other commercial product or service. Please contact Judy Haynes on 9788 2500 with any queries.

Alcohol at dog shows
Please be sure that all BYO drinks brought to dog shows are consumed responsibly and be aware of how much you are drinking throughout the course of the day before getting behind the wheel. Remember that when you exit the park and enter the highway you are subject to all Victorian state laws. Be safe for the sake of your family, your dogs, and your fellow competitors.

Honour your dog at Bulla or KCC Park
The Facilities committees at Bulla and KCC Park have implemented an exciting project to display dog photos on the wall space at the indoor arena of the two venues. Please see the notice for the specific requirements of this project.

Have your say on the Heat Policy
Please complete the Heat Policy Questionnaire and return it to the office by 30 August to let the management committee know your views. Please note a hard copy of the consultation survey will be sent out to each club shortly.

Dr Erin Bell of Murdoch University is currently seeking assistance with her research on Neosporosis and Toxoplasmosis. She requires a small blood sample from dogs known to have this condition. Please read the letter from Dr Bell for more information. All participant details will remain anonymous.

What's Happening at KCC Park?
  • Speed humps are being placed around the Kinsman Drive to restrict speeding vehicles that put members and dogs at risk
  • The toilets below the Classic Room are currently being upgraded with a new, safer non-slip tile floor
  • The front competition area is still recovering from recent weather and the busy autumn schedule - please keep off the front area grass for a while longer to allow it to fully repair

Statement from the National Labrador Retriever Breed Council
Buyers beware of so-called silver labradors. Please read the NLRBC position statement for details.  These are cross breeds as this is not a colour recognised in the Labrador Retriever standard. As such, there is potential for many health and welfare issues. Puppy buyers are encouraged only to purchase Labrador Retrievers with ANKC pedigree papers, indicating that health tests have been performed on the sire and dam.

Change to Tail Docking Laws in Western Australia
WA has changed the wording in the Animal Welfare (General) Regulations 2003 to remove all reference to docking tails for prophylactic purposes and now only allows this procedure for therapeutic purposes, bringing it into line with all other Australian states. Read the notice to members on this topic for details.

DOGS Queensland Code of Ethics
DOGS Queensland has introduced an amendment to the CCCQ Code of Ethics as follows:
I shall not mate my bitch or dog to a close relative ie mother/son/father/daughter or brother/sister and I am fully aware that puppies as a result of these matings will not be registered without first gaining pre-approval from the CCCQ for the mating for scientifically proven welfare or veterinary reasons.
This decision applies only to members of DOGS Queensland and does  not apply to members of other state control bodies.

Protocol for the DNA testing of dogs
All breeders are strongly encouraged to read the Protocol for DNA testing of dogs before testing any animals as this may have an impact on whether or not the results are accepted by the ANKC in future.
